Job Description: The Assistant Director of Communications at Arcadia University is responsible for identifying and communicating the stories that bring the Arcadia brand to life and those that differentiate us across competitive markets. The ideal candidate will build awareness of Arcadia's global footprint through earned media (public relations) efforts and internal Arcadia news. Part of the Communications team, the Assistant Director of Communications also plays a lead role in developing institutional responses to crises and incidents that may impact the University. While hybrid work arrangements can be made, the Assistant Director of Communications is expected to work in the office four days a week.

Responsibilities :
- Lead efforts to coordinate proactive and reactive responses to crises and incidents that impact the University; develop messaging points and FAQs, as needed.
- Secure local, regional, and national placements about the University's mission, programs, achievements, and feature stories in print, broadcast, and online media.
- Regularly monitor local, national, and higher education news for University mentions, opportunities to pitch University experts, and topics that may impact the University community.
- Maintain and utilize the Arcadia Experts Guide to leverage and pitch our faculty and staff as experts in their fields.
Work closely with faculty and staff in pitching Arcadia stories to various media outlets by cultivating connections on campus. - Strategically increase the number of national media placements for the University.
- Serve as one of the University's points of contact for incoming press, media, and news requests.
- Provide marketing copywriting support as needed, including video scripts, print collateral, digital ads, billboards, and more.
- Assist staff as needed to promote a team effort and support University initiatives.
- Be an active and positive MarCom team member who contributes to team meetings with energy and is an active Arcadia community member.
- Cover and work University events, as needed.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- 5+ years of communications experience; higher education or journalism / PR industry experience preferred.
- Experience creating news stories and achieving successful placements in print, online, and broadcast outlets.
- Demonstrated ability to manage communication activities during a crisis.
- A results-oriented approach to understanding an institution's strategic priorities and capturing stories that advance Arcadia's enrollment, development, and brand position.
