Job Description

Job Summary:

Since its establishment in 1927, the Department of Radiology has been committed to the advancement of human health through innovation in imaging and image-guided therapies and made enormous impacts on patient care, research, and education. The Department and field is evolving at a rapid pace and provides a rich source of content to communicate.

The Communications Specialist will primarily be responsible for developing compelling content for a variety of channels to highlight the Department of Radiology's accomplishments for both internal and external audiences. Responsibilities include: developing editorial plans; writing articles that translate the complex scientific and clinical work into effective narratives; collaborating with Communications Manager on strategy for public website and intranet to ensure optimal user experience; working with subject matter experts on web content; and building and maintaining a presence on social media.

This position will report to the Communications Manager and work with the Vice Chair of Communications. A successful candidate will have a high level of accuracy and organization, demonstrated ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders, enthusiasm for learning about radiology, and dedication to growing as a communications professional.

Responsibilities:

Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.
  • 10% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • 15% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
  • 10% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • 35% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • 10% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans
  • 15% Develops web content, assesses navigation flow, and designs layout of specific pages
  • 5% Designs visual content for web, social media and other channels

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred focus in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field OR equivalent level of experience in communications, health education, English, science writing, or related field.

Qualifications:

Required
- Experience in communications (internship or professional experience)
- Strong written and verbal communications skills

Preferred
- Ability to interview experts and translate complex health and science information into plain language
- Knowledge of Associated Press Style
- Experience with developing new and/or maintaining websites with a focus on content, layout, digital accessibility and overall user experience
- Familiarity with content generation, analytics tracking, and audience building in social media
- Experience with web content management systems, e-mail marketing software, graphics software and/or social media platforms/management tools

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $60,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
