Job Description
Airswift has been tasked by one of our major Oil and Gas clients to seek an Electrical Engineer II to work on an initial 12-month contract in Gregory, TX - with the possibility for extension! The Electrical Engineer will be located at the chemical plant in Gregory, TX and will be responsible for the optimization, troubleshooting, and design of a wide variety of electrical equipment to ensure safe, environmentally sound, reliable, and profitable operations.
Responsibilities Base Plant Support - Work with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Process Technical groups to support base operations and serve as an electrical technology expert liaison for the site.
- Provide engineering assistance to Maintenance and Process Technical as requested in troubleshooting and equipment repair efforts
- Identify and communicate vulnerabilities to responsible business teams
- Support risk assessments, technical evaluations, and propose cost-effective solutions to vulnerabilities, or support acceptance
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause failure analysis (RCFA), and equipment bad actor analysis
- Leverage equipment strategies, known vulnerabilities, bad actors, and maintenance records/history to drive development of annual maintenance worklists, turnaround worklists, and/or capital projects for the electrical equipment class
- Participate in turnarounds, investigation/improvement teams, and incident damage assessment and recovery
- Assist in developing maintenance/operating procedures and technician training
Projects - Support projects for new or replacement equipment through interfaces with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Project Development teams.
- Provide technical support for front-end development, cost estimation, design, construction, commissioning, and startup for projects, change packages, and turnarounds
- Design and specify electrical equipment such as motors, breakers, protection relays, generators, substations, cables, motor starters, transformers, and other industrial electrical equipment (120V to 138kV)
Reliability - Drive improvement in site electrical equipment class health and reliability
- Serve as an electrical equipment champion for the site
- Support reliability analysis & equipment class strategic improvements (e.g., long-term improvement plans, obsolescence plans)
- Support opportunities for step-out technology assessment and deployment
- Support interface with key third parties (e.g., external electrical utility company)
Networking & Above Site Activities - Participate actively in the ExxonMobil electrical discipline network, external peer assists, and represent site electrical concerns/interests in broader site and/or network initiatives.
Job Requirements/Desired Qualifications - 5 years of work experience in petrochemical production/manufacturing facilities with a general understanding of personnel safety, environmental, and process safety risks
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering; Masters candidates will also be considered
- Strong leadership skills, self-motivated, shows initiative
- Enjoys working in a fast-pace environment with ability to plan and coordinate competing work activities and priorities
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams
- Willing to travel domestically and/or internationally in support of electrical equipment construction or repairs.
- Knowledge of electrical safety, design, and testing standards, including electrical hazardous area classification standards (e.g., NFPA, NEC, NETA, API).
- Knowledge and experience in performing power system modeling (e.g., SKM Power Tools), electrical power system studies, and protective relay coordination.
- Prefer candidate to have experience in chemical manufacturing and polymer production operations.
