Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati is seeking a highly qualified and dynamic individual to fill the role of Executive Business Officer, Division of Academic Affairs. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing financial operations and strategic financial support of operations for colleges and units within the Division of Academic Affairs.  The Executive Business Officer will work collaboratively with the VP of Finance, finance leaders from other divisions across the university, and Business Officers within the Division of Academic Affairs to establish university financial policies, ensure compliance with applicable policies, and provide accurate financial reporting, forecasting and analysis, and strategic support to the Provost and other team members within the Division.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee and coordinate all budgeting activities within the Division in accordance with current university standards and processes, which includes, but is not limited to the following:  (a) Collaborate with the Office of Budget Management and the Financial Operations Committee to develop policies, processes, timelines, training, and reporting; (b) Assist the colleges and operational/administrative units in the development of individual budgets; and (c) Consolidate the Operational and Capital budget plan for the Division.
  • Develop and prepare standardized and customized financial reports for review and distribution to the Provost, related staff, and other divisional personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable University financial policies. Compliance includes policies and procedures as defined by the State of Ohio, Federal regulatory agencies, and professional organizations that govern financial activity and reporting requirements.
  • In conjunction with the VP of Finance and the Financial Operations Committee, coordinate financial forecasting activities for the Division of Academic Affairs. Activities include but are not limited to: (a) Collaborating with the Business Leaders within the Division of Academic Affairs to ensure timely completion of forecasting work; (b) Creation and review of assumptions and estimates for reasonableness and accuracy; (c) Consolidation of forecasting results for the Division of Academic Affairs; and (d) Collaboration with the Financial Operations Committee to develop and refine forecasting procedures for the aggregate university.
  • Prepare standardized financial analysis for the Division of Academic Affairs and work with the Provost and their team to develop other analyses deemed necessary and appropriate for the successful achievement of their stated objectives.
  • Provide appropriate and applicable support to the Provost and the Division of Academic Affairs. These activities are outlined above within this document but extend to other strategic financial needs as determined by the Provost.
  • Actively participate in university committees.  The current list of committees includes the following but may change as the needs of the university evolve: (a) Fiscal Coordinating Committee (FCC); (b) Anaplan Implementation Team; (c) Finance Operations Committee; (d) Tuition and Fee Review Committee; (e) NEXT Budget Model Committee; (f) National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST); and (g) the Data Team.
  • Provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related business field.

Required Experience

Ten (10) years of relevant work experience to include three (3) years of supervision.
