Job Description

The Graphic Designer creates compelling and innovative print and media designs to effectively communicate the Library's brand message, advance exhibition goals, and support outreach and engagement strategies. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to produce high-quality graphics for digital media, print, and exhibitions, ensuring consistency and alignment with the approved direction.

Reporting to the Vice President of Visitor Experience, the Graphic Designer will play a key role in enhancing the Library's visual presence and engaging the target audience through creative and impactful design. This position involves advancing the design process from concept to implementation, ensuring each project aligns with the Library's mission and goals. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Contribute to visual planning while ensuring brand consistency across projects, departments, and media. Develop and implement effective design concepts that align with approved messaging, medium, and budget.
  2. Collaborate with exhibition teams to develop design concepts for exhibitions. Design and create production files for exhibition panels and case labels, along with supporting experiential marketing components. Coordinate with vendors and oversee the production schedule. Assist with installation and de-installation of exhibitions as required.
  3. Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to design assets that align with campaign objectives, including social media graphics, print and digital ads, direct mail, website, newsletter, email graphics, and other promotional materials. 
  4. Partner with project stakeholders to develop the visual style and tone, layout, and flow of key annual digital and print publications. Create PowerPoint slides and template designs for internal and external presentations as needed. 
  5. Serve as an adaptive and innovative subject matter expert, staying current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in experiential design, digital design, printing and production, and user experience. Proactively integrate these trends and technologies into the Library design process.
  6. Coordinate with internal teams in managing relationships with external vendors as projects require and oversee production schedules and delivery dates. 
  7. Complete all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the Library.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of three to five years of proven experience in a relevant field. 
  • Proficiency in design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and others) is essential. 
  • Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout. 
  • Familiarity with ADA and universal design principles. 
  • Proven experience in cross-functional collaboration, demonstrating the ability to work effectively across various departments to achieve common goals.

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field of study.
  • Proficiency in an iterative design process.
  • A commitment to staying updated on emerging trends and technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and others.
  • Experience in User Experience (UX) design, with a focus on creating engaging, intuitive, and user-friendly interfaces.
  • An understanding of scale, floor plans, elevations, and their associated tools.

Compensation

This position is classified as exempt. The pay range for this position starts at $60,000 annually.
