Job Summary:

The Department of Mathematics at UW-Madison is seeking a Learning Center Coordinator to join our Math Learning Center team. One of the largest on campus, Mathematics is home to over 400 workers including faculty, academic staff, university staff, pre- and postdoctoral trainees; as well as graduate and undergraduate student employees. This position offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment including a broad range of challenging and varied responsibilities.

This new position is expected to function as a first point of contact for students and student workers in the Math Learning Center (MLC). In this capacity, the incumbent will interact with tutors and students seeking tutor assistance daily, providing assistance and resolving problems as they arise. Under the delegated authority of the Director of the Math Learning Center, the person in this role will conduct independent work and provide data-driven recommendations for enhancing critical administrative operations in the Math Learning Center.

This detail-oriented position requires excellent administrative, organizational, communication (verbal, written, and electronic), and leadership skills as well as computer proficiency. It requires considerable professionalism, confidentiality, independent initiative, sound judgement, analytic ability, and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage competing priorities as well as the ability to work independently in dealing with a diverse workload with frequent interruptions and varied responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates the effective delivery of center or academic programs providing support for quality programs for student services in the center and may supervise student staff. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • 10% Identifies, designs, plans, delivers, and evaluates academic support center programming and student resources
  • 20% Schedules logistics and secures resources for academic support center programming
  • 10% Assists students in assessing their interests, skills, and values; and assists with processing applications to match appropriate fields of study and career options
  • 20% Identifies and refers students to appropriate institutional resources and follows-up on referrals
  • 25% Coordinates and supports delivery of center programs, including application processing and intake/center program offering-related advising, in support of quality delivery of student support services
  • 5% Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
  • 10% Provide supervisory authority for front desk student workers and student team leads

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

- Experience planning and executing business meetings and similar events (e.g. training sessions, coordinated group meetings, etc.)
- Experience using Microsoft Office and Google suite for coordinating and processing work activities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and levels of education

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in any field, STEM or adjacent field strongly preferred
- Prior experience working in an academic or learning support setting

Work Schedule:

Standard business hours are 7:45 - 4:30 M-F. This position may require occasional night/weekend work.

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Occasional remote work may be authorized.

Minimum $25.00 HOURLY

The typical starting salary for this position is $25.00 - $30.00 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
