Position Overview
The Quarry Manager’s primary responsibilities are to effectively manage all quarry operations in a safe manner that meets MSHA and Company requirements; operate the quarries in an environmentally sound manner within the established budget; and efficiently produce plant raw materials to meet plant production, quality and schedule demands. What You’ll Do
• Is responsible for all operational aspects of a 650,000 ton per year quarry system, comprised of three limestone quarries, a clay pit and pozzolan pit. Responsibilities include quarry production, mobile equipment maintenance, over-the-highway transportation, quality and technical support.
• Ensures safe working conditions and environmental practices are adhered to including but not limited to mine conditions and equipment.
• Monitors total costs of mining activities, projects and required equipment.
• Prepares annual operating and capital budgets for quarry and mobile equipment operations. Provides monthly production and cost forecasts.
• Prepares and maintains plans of a mining site; carries out surveys and performs risk assessment of quarry sites and leads the development and implementation of short-term and long-term mine plans.
• Oversees mine planning activities by directing, controlling and examining mine planning and surveying activities and reserves analyses of all sites.
• Is responsible for maintaining MSHA-required and all mine-related documentation.
• Manages mining and cement plant mobile equipment by overseeing the acquisition and maintenance of all quarry and cement plant mobile equipment, including the oversight of the plant Mobile Equipment Maintenance Supervisor and their team.
• Manages an over-the-highway transportation system comprised of Company and Contractor drivers, managing relationships with contract carriers. Drives safety, environmental and risk management, as well as efficiency and cost control of this transportation system.
• Applies transportation management concepts to improve transportation processes, reduce waste, increase efficiency, and improve schedule preparation.
• Maintains strong relationships with mobile equipment vendors for cost-effective acquisition and maintenance of equipment.
• Provides leadership and motivation for building a successful team. Supports team members in their personal development goals and skill advancement, including training and coaching within the confines of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Demonstrates superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Is a key member of the facility leadership team, contributing in a supportive and meaningful way to cross-department objectives.
• Maintains high level of synergy and cooperative support with plant operations and maintenance organizations.
• Identifies process improvements to operational and financial performance.
• Promotes efforts to optimize reliability and maintenance through technical solutions by supporting studies and implementing projects.
• Liaises with geology professionals by establishing relationships with geologists and consultants.
Who you are:
• An experienced Quarry Manager with a strong and proven mining or geologic background.
• Has a bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
• Has a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a proven and successful manager.
• Possesses an emphasis on leadership with a demonstrated track record of building successful teams, motivating employees and maintaining positive and cooperative relationships.
• Has a proven mine safety record and compliance with MSHA safety standards.
• Is people oriented and results driven.
• Has excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills.
• Can build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.
• Has proven working experience with a Union workforce.
• Has proven planning and organizational skills, an attention to detail, and an ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced energetic environment.
• Has exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Has strong skills using Microsoft Suite and mine planning software.
• Has a strong ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maturity.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
