Job Description

Position Summary:

The Retail Sales Associate (RSA) is responsible for providing excellent service to customers of the Hearts Thrift Store and Redemption Center by carrying out all retail operations in the store. This includes, but is not limited to, register operations, customer service, stocking and pulling store inventory, coordinating thrift store volunteers, and employee interactions. They will assist with opening and closing Hearts Redemption Center as well as assisting with any needs of the Redemption Center throughout the day.

Essential Functions:

  • Greet customers as they enter and depart the store.
  • Follow customer interactive scripts as provided by the Management Team.
  • Operate a cash register and point of sale system with accuracy.
  • Complete register transactions including handling of cash and credit card payments and any non-cash purchases, in order to ensure the accuracy and security of all transactions.
  • Complete and assist with signing up customers for the loyalty program.
  • Provide shopping support to customers by answering questions about our products, addressing the needs of customers.
  • Provide customer support following guidelines set by the Management Team.
  • Stock store shelves and racks in order to provide customers with maximum shopping opportunities.
  • Pull unsold merchandise as directed by the Management Team according to company guidelines and policies. 
  • Establish and maintain customer service standards in order to ensure compliance with the company mission statement and to provide a pleasant shopping experience for each customer.
  • Maintaining the physical appearance of the store on every shift, including, but not limited to: restocking of janitorial and restroom supplies, removing safety hazards, picking up store merchandise and restoring to proper placement, cleaning entryways, windows and doors, store floors, restroom and other public areas to ensure the safety and health of customers and employees. 
  • Maintain and clean fitting rooms on a regular basis.
  • Keep the register area clean and void of hazards, stocked and ready for the next shift. 
  • Take inventories of needed merchandise and reports to management.
  • Work with volunteers and be able to give clear direction.
  • Facilitate store opening and end of day closeout.
  • Communicate all events related to customer service issues or problems, register mistakes, employee issues or accidents, and general store operations to the manager in order to ensure all issues are handled properly and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Acts independently and responsibly to perform job duties on a consistent basis.
  • Attend as required, or requested, all training events provided by the company and all store meetings as scheduled by the manager in order to keep current on any policy changes, new procedures, and other information essential to performing the job.
  • Follow and maintain code of conduct as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Perform other duties assigned

Redemption Center

  • Open and Close the Redemption Center
  • Clean the Redemption Machines as well as the Redemption Center
  • Empty machines when full
  • Lift full bags of recycled plastic and glass bottles and aluminum cans to take to the inventory location
  • Assist customers with reimbursement for their recycled bottles and cans
  • Report any errors on machines to management for repairs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance, with availability to work flexible shifts.
  • Retail sales experience preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteers is preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and move boxes and bags of donated items up to 50 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service and people skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Computer skills including Point of Sales System, Google Docs, email, Microsoft Word
  • Ability to reconcile daily receipts for accounting purposes 

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.50 per hour
