Job Summary:

The Safety Employee is responsible for supporting the implementation and enforcement of safety programs and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. This role includes assisting with safety inspections, monitoring compliance with safety regulations, and participating in safety training and awareness activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Inspections and Audits:
  • Assist in conducting regular safety inspections of work sites, equipment, and processes to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Monitor and document safety compliance, reporting any violations to the Safety Coordinator or HSE Manager.
  • Participate in safety audits and assessments to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations.
  • Safety Training and Education:
  • Support the delivery of safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientations and refresher courses.
  • Distribute safety literature, posters, and bulletins to promote awareness of safety practices.
  • Assist in the coordination of safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Incident Response and Reporting:
  • Respond to and assist in the investigation of workplace accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents.
  • Help gather information for incident reports and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
  • Follow up on corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards.
  • Maintain safety records, logs, and reports as required by company policies and regulatory agencies.
  • Support the preparation for safety inspections by regulatory bodies.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Management:
  • Ensure that employees have access to and are using the required PPE.
  • Monitor the condition of PPE and arrange for replacement or repair as needed.
  • Educate employees on the proper use, care, and storage of PPE.
  • Emergency Preparedness:
  • Assist in the implementation of emergency response procedures, including evacuation plans and first aid protocols.
  • Participate in emergency drills and ensure employees are aware of emergency exits and procedures.
  • Maintain and inspect first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and other emergency equipment.
  • Safety Culture Promotion:
  • Encourage safe work practices and behaviors among employees.
  • Participate in safety committees and contribute ideas to improve workplace safety.
  • Support safety initiatives and campaigns to foster a strong safety culture within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some college coursework in occupational safety, environmental science, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • 1-2 years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in an construction setting.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices.
  • Skills:
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA).
  • Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily work in the field, with regular visits to various job sites.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • May be exposed to varying weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • May need to climb, kneel, and bend as part of inspection activities.
