Description SUMMARY: Responsible for designing and implementing a multi-sensory individualized educational plan (IEP) for students with special needs in a 1:1 home setting; and providing an educational environment that is conducive to learning.
JOB DUTIES: - Reviews prior records of students to identify specific educational needs; participates in IEP meetings to develop an educational plan that is also supportive of the student's therapeutic program; periodically assesses and reports accomplishments relative to IEP
- Works cooperatively with parents, various therapists and others to develop, implement, and facilitate each student's overall treatment plan and IEP
- Administers formal and informal assessments to determine baseline levels of functioning and measure student progress
- Utilizes current teaching methods and strategies to design lesson plans that will engage students in the learning process; ensures opportunities for all students to actively participate in the learning process; assigns homework that can be accomplished independently by the students
- Develops and implements effective behavior management techniques appropriate for students utilizing positive reinforcement philosophies; maintains a structured, organized and safe educational environment with clearly defined expectations and schedule
- Develops and maintains individual including progress reports, daily attendance records, formal educational assessments, and transcripts in accordance with school policies; ensures confidentiality is maintained
- Responds appropriately to incidents and problems that arise during academic sessions and works with the family to assess the situation and determine appropriate interventions
- Attends and participates in meetings, in-service programs and workshops to maintain professional knowledge and skills and keep informed as to Company's policies and programs that may impact on students
- Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: In the course of performing this job, the incumbent must be able to lift at least 40 lbs. Frequent sitting, twisting, typing, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Occasional walking, standing, bending, grasping, pulling, pushing and reaching.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS : - Specialized (moderate/severe) California Teaching Credential or Specialized (mild/moderate) California Teaching Credential with authorization to teach students with autism
- Demonstrated skill in working with students who with special needs
- Demonstrated skill in behavior management
- Demonstrated skill in curriculum development
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to pass and utilize First Aid and CPR certification within three months of hire
- Must fulfill all requirements of employment, including clearance of all required background records (e.g. Department of Justice, Child Abuse, California Community Care Licensing, County Sanction List, etc.), professional, physical examination, and drug testing
