Description Apply for this position by August 2, 2024 The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina is seeking candidates for Sports Coordinator for the Statesville branch. Candidates for the Sports Coordinator position must have an enthusiastic personality with an ability to develop relationships with participants, parents and other staff. They must have an extensive knowledge of the major sports and a desire to use that knowledge to grow professionally with the YMCA. They should present themselves in a professional, caring manner and have excellent communication skills. They should also learn and understand the YMCA's mission and best practices in order to help foster and ensure all sports practices, games and events at the Y have a mission driven atmosphere.
Responsibilities include:
- Serve as Site Supervisor for all games and practices held at branch
- Ensure games and practices begin and end on time
- Monitor weather and field conditions. Make appropriate decisions regarding weather conditions to ensure safety of participants and staff.
- Officiate games on game days
- Lead preschool sports programs
- Lead adult sports programs
- Help recruit, screen, and train volunteer coaches to lead participants each season. Ensure volunteer coaches adhere to the YMCA Code of Conduct.
- Follow registration calendar timeline that includes coaches meeting, captain's meeting, roster distribution, practice and game dates and make up dates.
- Ensure practice schedules, game schedules, rules, team rosters are communicated with coaches, participants and staff.
- Ensure equipment is well-maintained and properly inventoried after each practice/game.
- Complete all needed field and court markings.
- Use DAXKO to run reports, view rosters, track payroll, etc
- Responsible for sports staff part-time payroll.
- Help hire and schedule part-time staff.
- Complete reports, assignments, and projects in a timely manner as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule: 15-25 hours per week, evenings and weekends required, flexible schedule preferred as some morning hours may be required for meetings: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Friday 3-8pm, and Saturdays 8am-3pm.
Qualifications - High School Diploma/GED required, Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
- CPR/First Aid/AED- must obtain certification within first 90 days of employment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)- Preferred
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service
- Possess strong sense of responsibility
- Energetic, devoted, mission driven, confident, respectful, adaptable, team oriented individual
- Punctual
- Extensive knowledge of rules for basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer and / or baseball preferred
- Ability to work with children of all ages required
- Ability to accept supervision, critique and guidance required
- Good communication skills with children, coaches and parents required
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control required
