UAE developer says new $160m Moroccan project to create over 1,100 jobs

Abu Dhabi-based real estate developer Imkan reveals ambitious project on the corniche of the coastal city of Rabat in Morocco

Abu-Dhabi based real estate developer Imkan has launched an ambitious project on the corniche of the coastal city of Rabat in Morocco.

Le Carrousel spans over 100,000 square metres along Rabat’s picturesque Atlantic coastline, the developer said, adding that the mixed-used destination includes an outdoor mall with more than 120 shops and restaurants, over 200 unique residential seaside apartments, a waterfront with 36 promenade shops and restaurants, a five-star hotel, and 12,000 square metres of office space.

With a project value of MAD 1.5 billion ($160 million), Le Carrousel is expected to create more than 1,100 jobs once it is fully operational, it added in a statement.

Walid El Hindi, CEO of Imkan, said: “We are proud to be part of this ambitious project; it has been a fantastic journey bringing this development to fruition.

“With its prime location and bespoke residential and commercial offerings, we truly believe Le Carrousel is set to become one of the leading destinations in Morocco.”

He said that one of the highlights of the new development is Le Phare du Carrousel, an area with a small number of private boutique homes, each with spectacular views of the Atlantic ocean, a communal private gym, outdoor pool and landscaped gardens.

Other amenities will include a zen area for yoga and meditation, walking, jogging and cycling paths, and play areas for children.

The area will also be home to the new five-star Le Carrousel hotel with 123 rooms.

The circular design of Le Carrousel was inspired by Dutch artist MC Escher, whose work often included paradoxical, impressive architectural designs of seemingly infinite loops.
