Attending the business and investment round table

On 4 December 2018, our CEO, Mr Kamal P. Timmal, was invited by the City of Johannesburg Mayor, Mr Herman Mashaba.

We sat down with Mr Kamal Timmal to get an exclusive interview about what he thought of the event and get insight to South African business and investment and what it means to him to have been a part of such an exclusive event.

How did you find out about this event?

I was invited by the Mayor. My involvement in the chambers and councils in Johannesburg and Durban has allowed to attend high-profile events and network with remarkable people.

What made you attend as you have been invited for many round tables in the past?

There was a possibility of accessing infrastructure that could make a positive impact on our mandate which is to assist people and organisations to grow.

First impressions of the event?

I was happy that the City of Johannesburg has adopted a new project and is a fore-runner in South Africa in allowing the public to tender for lease or purchase of unused and abandoned state infrastructure.

I was also impressed that they asked for winning bidder to have a component of corporate responsibility.

Would you attend another?

Yes, it gives your privy into high-level decisions of government that is offered to the working class.

As a business Owner, why should anyone accept an invite like this?

The networking is phenomenal. You get a chance to chat and start relationships with peers and like-minded passionate entrepreneurs.

It also allows you to, inadvertently, start making connections in industries that you probably would not have.

What would you have liked to get out of this event that you did not achieve?

Nothing yet as this is a groundbreaking project and only when we are shortlisted will I then have many questions.

What was your take-away?

I would like to see other municipalities following suit. There are billions of rands that are being paid by tax payers to invest in the maintenance if infrastructure that could be used for the community development which affects the unemployment rate in South Africa.

Networking is critical for CEO as you find that every industry affects the other and keeping an eagle’s eye view of industry trends and markets allows you to make strategic decisions in business.
